The last time I had a chance to be with a Kogi Mamos in person was in the Spring of 2009. They were here in Sedona at the Return of the Ancestors Gathering, they and 100’s of other Elders and indigenous from all over the world. On the day that they made a premature departure from that event, a little bird had already told them that the ceremonies were about to go into a tailspin and that they needed to get back to Columbia before everything blew up.
Right before the Mamos left for the airport I had an opportunity to sit with Mamos Jacinto and Mamos Kuncha for about twenty minutes. Looking into their eyes, even though they were looking straight at me, it seemed like they were looking at something else. These were no ordinary human beings. And what came through as an impression made me wonder if what has been lost to civilization is too far beyond our comprehension, and too close to extinction for any one of us to ever dream of reclaiming it. In their final message to the crowd the Mamos said: ‘We have nothing more to say to you, it is up to you now” - which made it seem as if they wouldn’t be coming back.
Evidently things have changed – because about two months ago, Adam Yellowbird stopped in to tell me that a few of the Mamos would be returning to the states in June. According to the man who serves as a bridge between the Kogi and Arhuaco tribes people, and the people of the civilized world, the Mamos are calling us to come together for ‘The Dawn of a New Time Gathering’, and the start of their ‘Summer Tour’ which will begin here in the Sedona vortex on the 22nd of June.
While Adam continued to explain things, I was already thinking; ‘this can’t be just any other gathering. It’s the 2012 Midsummer cross quarter. The Mamos never leave the mountains unless it’s important. Something big is going on ’. Eventually he got around to saying, ‘The Mamos have a transmission for us; they have messages to deliver, things they need to tell us – and they have offerings to make to Mother Earth’ His next words were; ‘will you do an article for us?’
Eight weeks down the road, this is as far as I’ve gotten with the article; for some reason, it’s been a tough one. Aside from the fact that writing anything about the Indigenous people and their activities never fails to put me on thin ice, back in March things were just starting to come together, so there wasn’t a lot Adam could tell me about it. For the past two months I have been trying to find a way to write this story without creating too much confusion – and I think I have finally figured it out.
MY MEETING WITH ADAM
I am always glad to see Adam Yellowbird. Whenever he comes to call we talk about everything. This time, we went all over the place but after two hours and a little South American tobacco, I had more of a feeling for what at first seemed totally vague and unclear.
From what I distilled out of that conversation, the keepers of the cosmic clock are coming down from the heart of the world to greet the ‘Dawn of the New Time’. According to the Kogi Mamos, the Elder Priests of these Mayan tribes, we are at a point in the Grand Cycle where the people of both the northern and southern hemispheres have to come together and share our gifts, our knowledge, and our messages with each other. They say this is a hard thing to do because we see and understand the world so differently. As Mother Earth moves through the Eye-of-the-Needle the ones who call themselves our Elder Brothers are coming back to remind us that the time has come for humanity to cross the bridge that unites the ancient, nature-based, Indigenous wisdom with the scientific and technological wisdom that is so highly revered here in the modern world.
To the best of my knowledge, that’s what this tour is all about; at least on the surface. That the first ceremony will be held in Sedona is no surprise. For the indigenous, every place on Mother Earth has its own special vibration and the Red Rocks have always been sacred to them. Part of the Mamos work as the ones whose job it is to maintain balance on the planet still involves making offerings and performing ceremonies in the appropriate places, at the appropriate times. The last time they came to Sedona the Mamos fulfilled a prophecy – and it looks to me like they’re about to do it, or something equally momentous, again – because the timing on this will see them lighting the first fire in the afterglow of the 2012 Summer Solstice.
DUH!
Even a ‘Teen Witch’ can tell you that the Midsummer Cross Quarter is linked via the Law of Polarity and the Law of Resonance directly to the Winter Solstice. Any magic performed between the 20th and the 25th of June will spin out and meet its highest expression within six months time. Far be it from me to presume that I could give you a rundown on what their deeper purpose might be. All I know is; the Kogi and Arhuaco Mamos are the most highly evolved beings on the planet. I am sure that whatever they have in mind when they come to greet the ‘Dawn of the New Time’ will have a direct impact both on the changes that are due to occur on the 21st of December, and on everything that takes place from that day on.
In an attempt to see if I could find out more about the nature and purpose of this event, I decided to draw up a horoscope for it. I had to laugh when I looked at what’s in the stars between the 22nd and the 25th of June. A quick overview showed me that I’d be nuts to try to peddle any type of prediction or dare to put my head in the noose of presuming to know how the whole thing will play out. Just for the heck of it, let me give you a quick peek at a couple of aspect patterns to help you understand why I am choosing to keep my mouth shut:
First of all, the asteroids Klotho, Pandora, and Astraea are conjunct in this horoscope. Klotho is always about how things start, or how the situation develops from the very beginning. Pandora has to do with surprises and unexpected happenings that change the whole face of a situation, for better or worse. In a conjunction the two asteroids imply that nothing will go as planned because random occurrences will disrupt whatever the plan is. Loose ends, not knowing if things are coming or going, timing issues, along with the potential for some sort of disaster to pop up and complicate everything are layered in with all of the above: because the asteroid Astraea is part of this conjunction, and it is she who governs, not just these things, but the whole concept of; ‘you’re going to have to wait and see’, or; ‘you may not be free to go forward because anything could take precedence over, or come along to interrupt it’.
Aspects from Minerva suggest that the people who are organizing this gathering are going out of their way to make room for all of the idiosyncratic energies that will continue to be part of the organizational picture. Previous experience has taught them that anything can happen, and in this particular situation the element of surprise has already started to manifest. A few weeks ago one of the Kogi villages was burned to the ground. I don’t have the details on that story, but you can see how ‘the potential for some sort of disaster to pop up and complicate everything’ is, even at this point, very much part of the script.
With just these few astrological tidbits common sense tells me to refrain from predicting the unpredictable. If I am off the hook I owe it all to the fact that the 8-Ball keeps saying; ‘What are you, nuts?’ At the same time I am very clear that one way or another, the ‘Dawn of the New Time Gathering’ is definitely going to happen – and because of this I think it’s safe to give myself permission to tell you why I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
WHY THIS IS SO IMPORTANT
The Summer Solstice is a cosmic window through which energies move more easily back and forth between the world of Spirit and the world of men. Every earth based tradition has their own way of defining the relevance of this particular cross quarter – but all of them see it as the point in the yearly cycle where any attempt to invoke the life force by making offerings and honoring the Spirit of the Earth is met with open arms.
If ‘Midsummer Magic’ is a very real thing, the summer of 2012 will see that magic intensified by the movement of Venus, whose orbit will take her in front of the Sun. This is a cyclical astronomical occurrence which symbolically makes the feminine power of Venus superior to the masculine power of the Sun and which, as you will see, has a tremendous amount of significance:
“One of the rarest transits is that of Venus passing in front of the solar disk during its inferior conjunction with the sun. Generally, when Venus is in conjunction with the sun, the planet passes above the sun or below the sun from the perspective of Earth, owing to the inclination of its orbit vis a vis ours. When a transit is observed from Earth, however, another is often seen eight years later, because the orbital periods of Venus and Earth are in an eight-year resonance. After these successive observances, however, an interval of over one hundred years ensues, making transits of Venus very rare indeed. The last transit occurred on June 8, 2004, and the time before that was in 1882. The next transit of Venus will occur between June 5th and 6th in the year 2012. Be sure you don’t miss this one!
The Code from Venus, Orion and the Sun
Venus passes before the Sun on the sixth of June 2012. She will be in the middle of the Sun at exactly 1:30 AM. Venus will be stationary on May 15th and June 27. This means that Venus will be in the middle of her retrograde loop on the fifth of June at 8.18 pm. Venus will be directly above the middle of Orion while it passes before the middle of the Sun! This positioning seems too strange to be irrelevant. Hence, you see the connection between Venus, Orion and the Sun. It is for this obvious reason that ancient scientists took this code to be a warning for the End of Times!”
Between the Solstice and the planet Venus, there is no doubt that the month of June 2012 stands out as an unusually powerful turning point. We could prove this by taking a look at it from a variety of perspectives but because their frame of reference is unknown to us, we can’t say much about how the Mamos see it. Personally I am looking forward to hearing them share their point of view – because I am sure they know way more about what all of this means than we do.
If you wonder why all of a sudden it is the Native people who seem to hold the key to everything it is because they are the only ones left on this planet who remember how to live; the rest of us are so disconnected from nature we live in our heads, we worship the ego, and we have come to believe that life is about money and things. We have forgotten so much of what it means to live in harmony with the Earth and we are so far removed from the Truth, it’s hard for us to believe that a Native American Elder or a Shaman from a Third-World Country could know more about anything than we do – but, hey: Is it possible that National Geographic never gave us the full scoop on where the Indigenous people are at?
Looking at what we ‘know’, and noticing what it has gotten us, a quick scan of the global situation would suggest that if all of our knowledge is about to destroy us it might be time to change our tune. With Polar Shifts blowing in the wind and elemental forces turning the world upside down, a complete reversal in the way we see things could be exactly what we need. If that is the case, can we erase the thought that the Native people have nothing to teach us and replace it with the idea that the Ancestors have returned to show us that there has always been another way to do things?
I’ve heard too much about the Kogi and Arhuaco Mamos to have any doubt about who they are. From what I observed during their last trip to Sedona, and from what I saw and felt during the twenty minute encounter that took place between me and them before their departure for the airport, I am clear that they not only know exactly what’s going on, they are here to help us figure out how to deal with it.
When I step far enough out of my ego to believe this, its mythic proportions call up pictures of the wisest men on the planet arriving just in the nick of time to make the offerings that only they know how to make, and to keep us from going all the way to the brink. If I am drawn to wonder what their true purpose might be it’s because no one else has come up with the answers and there seems to be nowhere else to turn. Believe me when I tell you; I want to learn whatever I can from these men. And since they only come around when there’s something major going on, bearing witness to the events that called them to come all this way to deliver their message might be just what it takes to get me to toss out my 3-D Glasses and begin to see the world in the same light that endows the Mamos with the power to keep the Earth spinning.
As much as it looks like the pathway to the ‘Dawn of the New Time Gathering’ will be lined with changes and last minute surprises all the way to the finish line, by the time we get there, whatever it takes to make it happen will be well worth whatever it costs us to adapt. If you’re someone who likes to have everything run according to any sort of itinerary or plan you might want to stay home and get the story on the back end. But if you’re OK with letting things be, and you want to bring all of your light to a gathering that is bound to out do everything I have said about it, start packing your bags and get excited about joining the Mamos when they come up from the heart of the world to light the fires and make the offerings that will usher in the ‘Dawn of the New Time’.
